The Brief

This project began with a call from a new client in Wandsworth. She and her husband own a beautiful Victorian home on a pretty street in Putney. The client was seeking bespoke, fitted furniture for the dining and living area, and we were delighted to work on this creative project.

The Installation

We created two pieces of furniture, to fit perfectly either side of a lovely fireplace: two custom designed, built-in shelving units, one with tinted glass doors, and the other in a contemporary box shelf style, both with cupboard storage beneath to tidy away clutter.

As shown, the shelves and cupboards were made to measure, and fitted into alcoves, which were already present in the property, either side of the old chimney stack.

Building fitted furniture in this manner is an excellent way to maximise space and light in your home, and to add your own character to a room. In this case we already had a fantastic space with which to work – the house is bright and airy, with stylish decoration.

The Details

The doors and shelves were finished in white, to fit with the clean, modern décor of the space, and to compliment the style of the fireplace. We added sturdy oak surfaces to the top of the lower cabinets, bringing warmth to the design and matching the stunning wooden flooring, which stretches the length of the open plan living room, dining area and kitchen.

All the pieces we installed look great and integrate perfectly with the overall style of this pretty home. Once the job was complete, our friends at Gertrude & Ivy visited the property to photograph the project.

We are delighted to say the client was very happy with our designs and installation of these two matching alcove cupboards – here is what they said:

We are so happy with Bill’s work; it is just what we wanted and we highly recommend Alcove Designs.
