The Consultation (No Obligation)
Courtney & Paul recently moved into a newly renovated, Victorian house in Hampstead, north-west London. We were delighted to receive a message from the couple via our website and made an appointment to visit the couple at the property. We discussed design ideas to create storage space, to complement the interior style of this lovely family home.
Courtney & Paul wanted traditional style, alcove shelves and cupboards in the lounge, finished in gloss white, with oak countertops. Upstairs, the family needed a floor-to-ceiling, fitted wardrobe installed in the second bedroom, in preparation for a new arrival…
The alcove furniture would occupy the traditional position each side of the fireplace, with one side to house the television equipment and media centre. Upstairs, the wardrobe design was to be matched to the one in the third bedroom, which had been installed when the property was renovated. After taking exact measurements of each space, we returned to our desk to consider the design and put together our best recommendations.
We suggested the height of the skirting boards in the lounge, could be continued along the fascia of the alcove cupboards, to achieve a pleasing, integrated look for the new furniture. Courtney & Paul liked our idea to cut the new cupboard tops from the same wood as the lounge doors and wood flooring, which lead into the kitchen and hallway. Our designs ensured all wiring would be tucked away out of sight, along with sufficient ventilation panels, to prevent the TV & music units from overheating. We were able to source the correct materials for the wardrobe doors, so the finish would reflect the original design in the other bedroom.
Having shown Courtney & Paul our designs and received their approval, we set about the installation process. As is often the case in older Victorian properties, the addition of fitted furniture can be complicated somewhat by the irregularities of the walls and ceilings, but we were confident that our designs were precise and would fit perfectly in the lounge alcoves.
The floor to ceiling wardrobes in the bedroom were carefully drawn up, built and installed, creating plenty of storage space. In addition to this, the doors of the wardrobe feature a large mirror, which brightens the room and creates an illusion of even more space.
Installation of the two projects ran on time, budget and with minimal disruption to Courtney and Paul’s home life. These bespoke pieces of furniture, fit perfectly with the style of the original renovation and create space in both rooms. We were particularly happy with the detailing of the alcove cupboards and shelves, which are both in keeping with the modern styling of the home and period charm in this beautiful Hampstead home.
Courtney & Paul said: We found plenty of examples on the Alcove Designs website. When Bill visited our home, he showed us samples of materials and suggested we match the wood of our internal doors, with the counter tops of the alcove cupboards. Bill was quick to turn around our requests for design modifications – we were pleased with his attention to detail. The installation of two alcove cupboards and shelves in the lounge and a fitted wardrobe with sliding doors in one of the bedrooms, were delivered neatly and on time. We have already given Alcove Designs details to our neighbour and happy to recommend to others.
